The Trans-Sahara Counter Terrorism Partnership (TSCTP), a multi-country interagency effort, aims to combat violent extremism in the Sahel region of Africa. In Mali, activities were underway to build stronger, more stable communities, create entrepreneurial opportunities for youth, and reduce tensions that could be exploited by terrorists or insurgents.

USAID's Office of Transition Initiatives (OTI) is supporting a theater competition between youth organizations in Timbuktu, Mali. The theme of this competition is peace, reconciliation, and countering the extremist message of the occupiers who controlled Timbuktu for more than a year.
